Fiber Optic Transceiver

A fiber optic transceiver is a device used to transmit and receive optical signals in a optical network. Optical transceiver facilitates bi-directional data transmissions between electronic devices (e.g., computer, input/output system, peripheral device, or switch) and optical data links in fiber optic systems. Fiber optic transceivers mainly include GBIC transceivers, SFP transceivers, SFP+ transceivers, XENPAK transceivers, X2 transceivers and XFP transceivers.

GBIC is short form of Gigabit Interface Converter. GBIC transceiver is an interface device used to convert Gigabit electrical signal to optical signal. GBIC is an international standard interchangeable products.

SFP stands for Small Form-factor Pluggable transceiver. SFP transceiver is also named as Mini GBIC, for its function is similar as the GBIC transceiver.

SFP+ is the upgraded from SFP transceiver. SFP+ transceiver is with higher data rate. Xtransceiver supply SFP+ SR and SFP+ LR modules. They are fully inspected according to the industrial standards and are Rohs compliant.

X2 Transceiver is a type of 10 Gigabit Ethernet optical transceiver. X2 transceiver is based on XENPAK transceiver module, and it has same function with XENPAK transceiver. X2 is better for density installation for it is only half size of XENPAK transceiver.

XFP transceiver is a 10 Gigabit Small Form Factor Pluggable optical transceiver. It is protocol independent. It is usually 850nm, 1310nm or 1550nm. XFP transceiver is used for 10Gbps of the SONET/SDH, Fiber Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, 10 gigabit Ethernet and other applications.
