Optical network hardware market increase
The worldwide optical network hardware market increased 10% to $3.38 billion in the last quarter compared to the previous quarter according the latest research figures from Infonetics Research.
This increase is an acceleration in the trend away from SONET/SDH to WDM optical equipment.
The shift towards next generation mobile backhaul infrastructure is one factor as well as preparation by carriers for the optic reboot – a rebuilding of core networks to use 40G and 100G, OTN and ROADM technologies.
Some of the key network equipment manufacturers will be supplying more and more of the 40G long reach ports and the 100G ports up to 2014.
Equipment vendors who offer the 100G technology first will take the long term revenue opportunities. While the tunable XFP transceiver market is forecast to grow at over 100% from now to 2014, and 10G SFP+ transceiver revenues will more than double in that time period.
