OPTICAL TRANSCEIVER MARKET ROSE 30% IN 2010

Global sales of optical interface modules used in telecom and datacom networks exceeded $2.5 billion in 2010, increasing by 30% from the year before, says market research firm LightCounting. The growth was driven by sales of 10-Gbps SFP+ and DWDM modules, including 40-Gbps and even 100-Gbps products, LightCounting says. Sales of wavelength-selective switch (WSS) modules used in ROADMs and tunable lasers were also strong in 2010, growing at 34% and 14%, respectively, the company adds.

Packet-optical transport for broadband stimulus project
February 21, 2011Cyan says that Woodstock Telephone, an independent operating company based in Ruthton, MN, has chosen its Cyan Z-Series of multi-layer packet-optical transport platforms, CyMS multi-layer management system, and its recently announced CyNOC network operations center (NOC) service to expand its fiber network with two transport rings to support over 3,600 premises in the southwestern portion of the state. The network, which will triple the size of Woodstock’s serving area, will be built with a combination of grants and loans totaling over $15 million awarded from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds under the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Broadband Initiative Program (BIP).
JDSU: Tunable XFP shipments exceed 300-pin transponders sales

JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU) (TSX: JDU) has revealed that shipments for its first-to-market tunable XFP products surpassed 300 pin transponder shipments in its second fiscal quarter for 2011, which ended December 2010. Sales for the tunable XFP also grew more than 70 percent from the first to the second quarter for fiscal year 2011.
Utilities Telecom Council launches UTC Fiber Optic Professional

CoreSite, CENX link to support cloud-based services
January 23, 2011Data center provider CoreSite Realty Corp (NYSE: COR) and Carrier Ethernet exchange company CENX, Inc. have reached an agreement that will enable CENX to offer its Carrier Ethernet exchange services in CoreSite data centers. The agreement supports CENX expansion to new markets, including the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Northern Virginia, and Washington, DC as well as additional data centers in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York.
